At Little Leaf Farms, the safety and quality of our products is our top priority, and we have been closely monitoring the recent Cyclospora outbreak. We would like to assure our customers that Little Leaf Farms packaged salads and kits are not impacted by this outbreak.
Little Leaf Farms grows our leafy greens in state-of-the-art controlled environment greenhouses using treated irrigation water and strict food safety practices. This means:
- We grow in a controlled protected environment using state of the art greenhouses to guard from outside elements.
- Our growing system is highly automated to minimize human handling. Because of this, and the highly protected environment in which our lettuce is grown, our lettuce is not triple washed and can be safely consumed without washing at home.
- We use rainwater that falls on our roof and is directed to lined basins as our primary source of irrigation water. We treat 100% of the water via ultraviolet (UV) sterilization prior to entering our greenhouses, which is a widespread and proven practice for sterilizing water, leaving zero chemical residue.
- All employees, especially those based in our greenhouses and pack houses, follow thorough personal hygiene procedures. This includes hand washing, wearing PPE, and staying home when sick to prevent the spread of any potential illness.
Due to these practices, we have never in our company’s history had an outbreak of any human pathogen such as E. Coli 0157 or Cyclospora. We continue to monitor updates from public health agencies and remain committed to providing our customers with safe, high-quality products. If any information were to indicate an impact on our products, we would take immediate action and communicate with our customers. If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.
