Our lettuce is not certified organic, though we adhere to growing practices that ensure our lettuce is on par with (or even beyond) the quality of organic greens.
Little Leaf Farms does not use any pesticides on our lettuce. This approach is even more strict than USDA-certified organic production, which allows the use of most non-synthetic pesticides as well as some synthetic pesticides that have been determined to not have adverse effects on the environment.
Little Leaf Farms is also Project Verified non-GMO, which includes stringent provisions for testing, traceability, and segregation.
The reasons we are not USDA certified organic are primarily related to the nutrients we feed to our plants. Crops, whether they are grown hydroponically or in soil, get their nutrients from the fertilizer they are given. At Little Leaf Farms, we apply our fertilizer directly into our water system, irrigating and fertilizing our leafy greens at the same time. Because we use both certified organic and conventional fertilizer, we are not eligible for organic certification.
Here at Little Leaf, we have a Clean from the Start mindset. This is why we at Little Leaf Farms consider our greens beyond organic! You can view our nutrition facts here, and if you have any follow-up questions please reach out and let us know. We’d be happy to answer!
